Task
Force Subcommittees
In fulfilling its charge from Governor Codey, the Flood
Mitigation Task Force has divided into three subcommittees:
Technical, Public Outreach, and Finance. Each committee is
evaluating the April flood and government response from a
different viewpoint.
| Technical Subcommittee |
Chair – John Moyle, Manager, DEP’s
Bureau of Dam Safety and Flood Control, (609) 984-0859 |
The Technical Subcommittee has been
charged with examining the exact circumstances of the
flooding that occurred in April and any factors that
may have exacerbated the problem, including rainfall,
snowmelt, development in the flood plain, increases
in impervious surface cover, and management of dams
and reservoirs. The subcommittee will also provide
recommendations for the most effective projects for
mitigating future flooding. |
| Public Outreach Subcommittee |
Chair – Kerry Kirk Pflugh, Chief, DEP’s
Watershed Management Section on Watershed Education,
Estuaries & Monitoring, (609) 633-7242 |
The Public Outreach Subcommittee has
been charged with examining the response of government
agencies to the flooding and the assistance provided
to residents. The subcommittee will also examine whether
sufficient information about flood mitigation and flood
insurance is available and how best to get the information
to residents for their use. |
| Finance Subcommittee |
Chair – John Ritchey, DEP’s
Bureau of Dam Safety and Flood Control, (609) 984-0859 |
The Finance Subcommittee has been charged
with determining all available sources of funding for
flood mitigation and response. The subcommittee will
also make recommendations about where best the state
should put funding for both short-term and long-term
improvements. |
